TITLE: Systems Engineer

 

LOCATION: New York, NY

 

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITY

Tervela is seeking enthusiastic, self-starting individuals with experience in networking technologies to work with Tervela engineers and partners to design and integrate Tervela technology with existing legacy middleware environments. These design and integration efforts will also include application development for high performance messaging. Engineers also perform consulting projects, including: migration planning, technology installation and configuration, performance tuning and optimization, report customization and design, knowledge transfer and mentoring. This role is entirely customer focused and presents the candidate with exposure to some of the biggest, most powerful financial institutions in the world today.

 

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Working closely with Tervela customers and Tervela Sales to ensure a thorough understanding of requirements
  • Working closely with Engineering and senior technical staff on the production of estimations
  • Engaging with customers to help plan deployment strategies and implement these
  • Converting evaluations and trials to customer wins
  • Ensuring all customer issues are followed through and implemented to their satisfaction Providing world-class support
  • Contribute and authoring Tervela documentation, white papers and thought pieces

SYSTEMS ENGINEERING CRITERIA

  • Experience in network troubleshooting, ability to isolate and diagnose networking problems rapidly, with an understanding on how to resolve those issues
  • Excellent listening skills to understand the business needs of prospects and existing customers
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, IGMP, OSPF, STP, L2/L3 switches, ARP, SNMP, etc.
  • Experience managing both LAN and WAN environments.
  • Experience in deploying new technologies and moving from lab to production environment.
  • Track record of exceptional performance, high productivity and meeting tight deadlines
  • Experience in working effectively within a team and on your own
  • Superb problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills desirable

SE Networking related Criteria

  • Excellent listening skills to understand the business needs of prospects and existing customers
  • Experience in the deployment of network infrastructure software products
  • 5+ years experience in Sales/System engineering deploying technology-focused products in the Financial Services industry
  • 5+ years experience with middleware technology (TIBCO, IBM MQ, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of Market Data infrastructure (Feed Handlers, FIX Engines, Pricing Engines, Ticker Plants)
  • Direct Market Data Feed connectivity (OPRA, NASDAQ, Inet, Arca, etc)
  • Strong Unix/Linux skills
  • Experience with global authentication and entitlement systems (RADIUS, LDAP, etc.)
  • Exposure to latency and queuing identification and monitoring
  • Scripting experience (Perl, shell)

Desirable SE API related Criteria

  • Excellent listening skills to understand the business needs of prospects and existing customers.
  • 5+ years experience in Sales/System engineering deploying technology-focused products in the Financial Services industry.
  • 5+ years experience with middleware technology (TIBCO, IBM MQ, etc)
  • Strong knowledge of Market Data infrastructure (Feed Handlers, FIX Engines, Pricing Engines, Ticker Plants)
  • Experience developing applications in either C, C#, or JAVA
  • Experience developing applications on pub/sub systems in the financial services industry Direct Market Data Feed connectivity (OPRA, NASDAQ, Inet, Arca, etc)

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BSCS or equivalent, plus 4-7 years experience in middleware development, i.e. APIs, messaging software, distributed systems, or networking software
  • Experience as a member of a multi-person software development team
  • Must be able to work independently or on a team project
