IT Manager Job Description

TITLE: IT Manager

 

LOCATION: Acton, MA

 

ROLE/RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the IT Manager will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s enterprise systems including networks, workstations, servers, system management and enterprise applications enabling the Company to successfully meet its business needs. Develop/maintain systems strategy; perform telecommunications and network connectivity and management including all connectivity, servers, internet, VPN and related security. Manage workstation support, and provide Management and direction setting for the enterprise’s application software. Tervela is developing an enterprise-class messaging application that is a highly scalable performance application platform. The successful candidate will be part of a small team and must be able to work both independently and within a team environment.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Manage and maintain the Company’s networks including, but not limited to the following: planning, installing, configuring, and supporting computer hardware and software for all networking and communications systems
  • Coordinate daily support issues of various sites to ensure systems are operational with high degree of reliability
  • Install, maintain administration and support of software (ERP, Enterprise, email systems, Backup Exec, etc.), computers (servers, PCs), peripherals, networks and topologies, and communications equipment (PBXs, cell phones, Blackberry devices)
  • Manage and maintain documented inventory of software licenses, inventory of computers and other hardware, network, system and network backup procedures, and any other IT processes
  • Implement appropriate technology to proactively monitor and protect the environment (MOM, Insight, Altiris, Antivirus, IDP, etc.)
  • Perform basic and advanced system maintenance, repairs, backups, software patches, upgrades and maintain releases stay current
  • Establish and follow procedures to keep the computing and networking systems running in excellent condition
  • Inform business units of current and future IT activities and projects so that they have a clear understanding of IT plans
  • Develop and publish metrics of reliability of network, servers, applications, and telephone system Interface effectively with vendors

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Experience in a Linux environment desired Possesses strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Exposure to operating in a regulated environment (Sarbanes Oxley, HIPAA, COBIT, ITIL)

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • BSCS or equivalent plus 7 years of hands-on IT experience in an Exchange, Windows, Server/Desktop environment with 2+ years of management experience
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Solid understanding of networking, and distributed computing client-server, network-wide file system concepts (NFS.NIS), DNS, TCP/IP, VoIP, firewalls, LAN WAN and telephone communications
  • Project management and prioritization of duties and responsibilities on an independent basis
  • Must be hands-on
