The Tervela TSE Service Engine fully integrates into the Tervela Message Network™—an ultra-low latency infrastructure designed to solve market volume, volatility and visibility challenges—to seamlessly provision common extensible applications without infrastructure re-engineering. Applications include:
-
Feed handlers
-
Intelligent order routers
-
Complex event processes
-
FIX engines
-
Last known value (LKV) services
-
Book services
-
Grid computing schedulers
As a hardware-accelerated service engine, the TSE provides distinct control and data planes that separate administrative operations from critical data flows. Organizations are able to embed applications into common platforms to ensure optimal messaging performance and low-latency operations.
The TSE directly interfaces with the following message network components:
By offloading compute functions to the message network, the TSE frees up vital server processing cycles to increase performance. This enables applications to focus on core functions such as information handling and decision making while empowering system architects to design higher performing, next-generation applications.
Engineered to support common extensible applications without infrastructure re-engineering, the TSE enables organizations to integrate compute functions into the Tervela Message Network. In addition to a core set of feed handlers, the TSE provides the following pre-configured services:
-
Last Known Value (LKV) Service—provides a store and replay mechanism for distributed and dynamic applications to seamlessly receive critical information regardless of connection patterns and infrastructure complexity. LKV function types include:
-
Snapshot: ability to send one message or a set of messages with the LKV of each published field for a topic to the client.
-
Seed: ability to create and seed a subscription to a topic with a LKV message for that topic, or multiple LKV messages for a wildcard topic.
-
Resync: ability to pause and resume the incoming data stream after the LKV of each previously published field is received when a subscription already exists.
-
Topic List Request: ability to provide a list of specific watched topics that match a wildcard topic.
-
Book Service—provides a rich, high-performance mechanism for maintaining complete information from a diverse set of information sources and feed handlers. This effectively mitigates application complexity and infrastructure concerns while delivering high-performance access with complete depth of book. The book service maintains aggregated and non-aggregated financial data books based on messages published to the message network. The book service allows subscribers to maintain current, accurate book information through use of snapshot, seed or resync requests. All requests can be specified by depth of book, side and type.
The end result enables investment banks, hedge funds, exchanges and other data-intensive organizations to:
-
Dynamically provision common extensible applications
-
Support feed handlers, intelligent order routing, FIX engines and services such as LKV and book
-
Increase performance by offloading compute functions to the message network
-
Maintain financial data books based on published messages
-
Separate administrative operations from critical data flows
